Singtom Tea Garden Homestay
Singtom Estate, Darjeeling, West Bengal · up to 3 guests · 1 bedroom
Pemba's family has plucked tea on this estate for four generations; their blue-shuttered home now keeps two guest rooms overlooking rows of tea that fall away toward the Rangeet river. Guests walk the plucking rounds at dawn, tour the estate's heritage factory, and learn to tell first flush from second over tastings on the porch. On clear mornings, Kanchenjunga fills the entire northern sky.

Saw Kanchenjunga turn pink at 5:40 am from the porch with a first flush in hand. Peak Darjeeling achieved.

The plucking walk gave me a whole new respect for what's in my cup. Diki's dinners are outstanding.
